ESD Trays

ESD trays

In order to make the "long workbench" usable for companies and to profit economically from globalization, almost every major producer uses a sub-supplier who can be located at home or abroad.

So far so good - but can I get the pre-products safely from the pre-supplier to the producer without any damage?

Especially with ESD (Electro-Static-Discharge) sensitive electronic components, circuit boards or entire assemblies, it is particularly important not only to protect them mechanically, but also from electrostatics and overvoltages.

Up to now, this has been achieved by adding “carbon black” to the raw mass of the plastic that has been processed into panels.

Due to the massive amount of carbon black, this technology has very large negative side effects, such as:

Large minimum quantities; much higher wear of the processing machines (extruders); Abrasion of carbon, which can cause short circuits; high dimensional tolerances.

Perhaps the most important negative point is that trays interspersed with carbon black shield RIFID labels and thus render them unusable. A digitization of production or Industry 4.0 is definitely not possible in this way.

The STATEX® method developed by PCC only coats the outside of the trays / product carriers. All negative points of the carbon black technique are thus eliminated. Furthermore, prototypes and small series for the PCC ESD trays are no problem. In addition, any color and transparent surfaces are possible.

The derivation values can be individually between 104th Ω / sq and 109 Ω / sq can be set. Practically any thermoplastic plastic substrate is suitable as a base material: PC, PMMA, PVC, PS, ABS, SAN, PET….

The PCC STATEX®-ESD tray technology can be applied to the finished panel / tray (deep-drawn part / injection-molded part) as well as to the semi-finished product and then deep-drawn (in a certain window).

We have recently started experimenting with prototypes made from bioplastics using PCC STATEX®-BIO have a conductive coating.

Typical applications are:

  • Trays
  • Workpiece carrier
  • Machine pallets
  • Electronics packaging
  • Coverings made of non-ESD material
